The Whisper and the Last Step

I didn’t set out to write a series on fear.

I just knew something was stirring—something about the way fear tries to keep us quiet, small, and safe. Something about the way faith nudges us forward anyway. Not with a shove, but with a whisper. A gentle, persistent tug toward obedience.

So, I wrote. I shared. I said yes.

And then I waited.

I didn’t expect a flood of responses. But I also didn’t expect the quiet. The kind of quiet that makes you wonder if it mattered. If anyone saw it. If the brave thing you just did was actually brave or just... unnoticed.

But then came the whisper.

A message from someone who said, “I needed that.” A moment of peace that settled in my chest. A verse that showed up at just the right time.

That whisper? It was enough.

Obedience isn't always loud. I used to think obedience had to look big. Like a stage or a spotlight or a perfectly timed launch. But lately, I’m learning it often looks like:

  • Writing the post even if only five people read it

  • Blending the scent even if it’s just for one customer

  • Saying yes to a role that stretches you

  • Praying over a label because you want it to carry peace

  • Packing a box with care, even if no one sees the details

  • Showing up to the booth with joy, even if it’s a slow day

Obedience isn’t about applause. It’s about alignment. It’s about saying, “Okay, Lord. I’ll do it,” even when your voice shakes.

And sometimes, the confirmation doesn’t come in claps—it comes in quiet.

"Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, 'This is the way, walk in it,' whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left." — Isaiah 30:21

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." — Isaiah 41:10

These verses have been my steady. Not because I’ve mastered courage, but because I'm learning where to place it.

I’m learning that small steps still stir. That your quiet yes matters. That your unseen work matters.

Look for the signs. They’re tucked into ordinary moments:

  • A customer who lingers at your table and says, “This feels peaceful.”

  • A child who lights up when they understand a number story.

  • A friend who says, “I needed that prayer.”

  • A moment when you feel peace, even if nothing changed.

Obedience isn’t about outcome. It’s about trust. About walking even when you don’t see the whole map.

So, if you’re in a season of quiet obedience, if you’re showing up, stretching, trusting—know this:

You’re not behind. You’re not unseen. You’re not too late. You’re walking in step with the One who sees it all.

Take a moment to reflect:

  • What fear have you faced in this season?

  • What step did you take, even if it felt small?

  • What did God show you on the other side?

Write it down. Honor it. Let it remind you—you’re braver than you think. And if you’re still waiting for the whisper? Keep listening. It’s coming.

Until next time—Keep stepping. Keep trusting. Keep kindling.

With love and courage,

—Andrena
