When stepping out of your comfort zone

Comfort zones are cozy places. They feel safe, predictable, and familiar like a favorite chair by the fire. But growth rarely happens there. Whether you’re launching a new product, leading a team, or simply daring to try something new, stepping out of your comfort zone is where transformation begins.

When you step out of the comfort zone and stop living in the box, you learn to believe. You learn to believe that you can be more. You learn, you stretch, you grow. I knew it was time to step out of my comfort zone in my business, it was time to level up my game with late-night learnings. And here’s the beautiful part: when you step out of your comfort zone, your relationships strengthen. People see someone who isn’t afraid, and they cheer with you along the way.

When you are living in a box, you are self-deceptive, living in comfort. But when you stop living in the box, that self-deception changes. You begin to see things differently. You learn that it’s okay to change, to try something new, and to trust that growth often comes disguised as risk.

Taking the step to say Yes matters, because if you don’t, you’ll keep living on the other side of fear. For me, saying yes meant building relationships to grow my business into wholesale, expanding my candle line to meet the needs of my customers. It was scary but I’m so glad I said yes. It meant taking a leap of faith into what I love.

One of the most exciting "Yeses” was the launch of the Everlasting Christmas Bloom Arrangement. I don’t typically have a green thumb, but I felt nudged to create something festive, elegant, and enduring for the holiday season. These arrangements combine handcrafted blooms made from soy wax with evergreen accents, bringing together the warmth of candles and the beauty of floral design. It’s not just décor, it’s a symbol of joy that lasts beyond the season, a centerpiece that reminds us of faith, family, and celebration.

That step also opened the door to expanding my business into a wickless line. It began with the Everlasting Christmas Bloom Arrangement, and in 2026, I’ll be introducing wickless candles designed to release their essence when warmed with a candle lamp. It’s a new way to experience scent safer, that is still cozy, and innovative & born from the courage to try something different.

For our Mercantile community, this might look like experimenting with a new craft, sharing your story more openly, or saying “yes” to opportunities that feel bigger than you. For my professional career, it might mean taking on a challenging project, speaking up in meetings, or trusting your instincts when the path isn’t clear.

The truth is that courage doesn’t mean the absence of fear—it means moving forward with faith despite it. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

Each step beyond what’s familiar plants seeds of resilience, creativity, and joy. And those seeds bloom into stories worth telling, communities worth building, and lives lived more fully.

When you step out of the comfort zone and stop living in the box, you stop living on the other side of fear. Step into the unknown, stretch beyond the box, and just say Yes. Because when you do, you discover that faith carries you, relationships strengthen around you, and your dreams begin to grow into something far greater than you imagined.
